“Geological Characterization of Economic Mineral Deposits in Eastern Kazakhstan: Research and Educational Collaboration”.

The project aims to establish a collaborative partnership between Western Michigan University (WMU) and East Kazakhstan State University (EKSTU) to jointly study the occurrences of economic mineral deposits in eastern Kazakhstan, particularly with respect to gold and rare earth elements.

A new research and educational partnership will be created between the faculty of WMU and faculty of EKSTU during which geological data will be generated using rock samples collected from specific mining-districts of Kazakhstan.

The data will be used to interpret the origin and modes of occurrence of these economic deposits with an effort to highlight the mineral-wealth of Kazakhstan to an international audience.
